The Province funds construction of Schools in Alberta. School boards work with Developers to have school sites, but residents are constantly concerned schools are over crowded. Our Council designed an initiative to require Developers to bring school sites forward quicker and in their first phases. Meaning, the school sites would be transferred to the school boards names earlier. With the sites being ready sooner, the school sites can be made up as parks right away, even though the province will take some times years to plan and build a school.
We have had negotiations with developers to fund and build schools. They are interested and in discussion with the Province they indicated they are interested. This is a change and change is slow to accept. In this scenario the Province would lease them back.
Libraries have been an important part of communities. With the changes in technology, Libraries are finding new ways to provide services. For small Towns and City's, we need to be creative in figuring out how to fund new larger facilities.
We are in need of a new expanded Library that is designed to follow the new trends on ways to support the larger growing community now and into the future.
In our next phase of growth, one idea that we are looking at is an expanded Library within the New High School, positioned at the front of the School, nearest the new Dawson Sports Plex. Encouraging both school and public use in a very dynamic positive community environment.
This is something to continue pushing for...
